You may have heard in the news recently that energy companies are due to hike their prices.
British Gas has just announced it is to raise electricity prices for the first time in three years, with its standard variable tariff set to increase by a significant 12.5% in September.
Consumers are outraged at the harsh rise, with over 3 million customers expected to suffer as a result.
British Gas blames increasing government and environmental input costs but still claims to be competitive with the likes of EDF, Npower, EON, Scottish Power and SSE.
Whether the other big companies follow suit remains to be seen but usually when one makes a change like this, similar price fluctuations occur.
That’s why now is a great time to invest in solar panels. PV solar panels enable you to generate your own free electricity, which is then used to power your household appliances and other electrical devices. This means that you won’t need as much electricity from the grid so will save money on your bills, especially if energy prices rise.
Recent periods of fixed energy tariffs have meant that solar PV products have dropped to all-time-low prices. It is now cheaper to install solar panels onto your home or business than it has been at any other time. The Government’s feed-in tariff is still available for solar so not only do you save money on your bills by generating your own free electricity, but you will receive payments for every KW you produce. You also get paid for exporting excess energy back to the national grid.
