Millions protest worldwide as part of a global climate strike.
On Friday 20th September 2019 millions of people around the world walked out of school and work to join the latest protests against the climate crisis. The global day of action, calling for a reduction in emissions, was being held in the run-up to a UN summit in New York.
Inspired by activist Greta Thunberg, young people in the UK called on adults to join them as part of a massive global day of protests, starting a week of global action around the world. There were strike events in at least 137 countries, and protesters throughout the world waved placards and chanted slogans in what could be the biggest ever demonstration over global warming caused by humans.
Luke from Green Energy Electrical Ltd went down to the local event in Chelmsford, Essex and was amazed at the amount of like-minded people, young and old, who had turned up to down tools and demand action.
Protestors converged at midday at Shire Hall, complete with an assortment of colourful placards and banners and were led by local students in chants and song. The police arrived at one point to try to and clear the road, but events remained peaceful and the demonstration soon moved down Chelmsford High Street.
It was truly inspiring to see so many forward-looking people demanding action and if you share the views of our progressive younger generation, we would thoroughly recommend getting involved with future events. More information can be found at https://www.fridaysforfuture.org/
